Mail carriers in 35 Kentucky counties will deliver 600,000 fliers warning victims of an ice storm not to eat peanut products from their emergency meal kits because of concerns about salmonella.
Brig. Gen. John Heltzel of the state division of emergency management says no one has reported getting sick and the fliers will be delivered Monday out of an abundance of caution.
The kits had been recalled about two weeks before they were sent to Kentucky to help feed hundreds of thousands of people left without power for days.
Some kits contained peanut butter recalled because of a nationwide salmonella outbreak that has sickened nearly 600 people and been linked to eight deaths.
The storm two weeks ago also hit Arkansas, but it appears people there didn't get the kits.
