Corey Hart may have worn his sunglasses at night in his 1984 hit, but you've no doubt noticed that Bono wears his all the time. In a new interview, the U2 frontman reveals that the shades have helped him cope with glaucoma for the past 20 years.

Bono, 54, made the admission to Graham Norton on his BBC1 talk show when asked whether he ever removes his trademark eyewear. The fact is, the Irish rocker hasn't just been dressing for the part, he's been dealing with a sensitivity to light.

"This is a good place to explain to people that I’ve had glaucoma for the last 20 years," Bono said, according to The Guardian. "I have good treatments and I am going to be fine."

The singer then added, "You’re not going to get this out of your head now and you will be saying, ‘Ah, poor old blind Bono.'" (Actually, everyone is probably too distracted trying to get his band's free album out of their iTunes).

"I just think they're cool," Robert Downey Jr., another guest on Norton's show, chimed in. "And I think Bono looks kill in them."

Glaucoma is a chronic eye condition in which pressure can cause damage to the optic nerve resulting in vision loss and blindness.

On stage, in front of world leaders, on the cover of Time magazine and anywhere else he has been photographed over the decades, Bono is always shading his eyes behind varying styles of sunglasses. Take a closer look at his unforgettable style.
