A desperate search is underway across several states for Alexis Lynn Johnson, 6, who was last seen with her mother’s ex-boyfriend in Louisiana after being allegedly snatched in Harris County, Texas.
Officials issued an Amber Alert for the girl late Sunday, who they said was taken by Harvey Eugene York Jr., according to NBC affiliate KPRC. They now have reason to believe the two are possibly in Louisiana.
“I want my baby,” Misty Howard, Alexis’s mother, told the station.
Family member say Howard and York had begun arguing Sunday at Howard’s home in Highlands, Texas. Harris County Texas Sheriff’s officials say that’s when York grabbed Alexis and drove off in a blue 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck with a silver stripe and Louisiana license plate F163202.
That vehicle was located Monday morning in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, according to Louisiana State Police, but there are no signs of the suspect and child.
“I thought he was getting some of my stuff out the truck and telling her bye and the next thing we knew, he cranked the truck up and left with her. So we jumped in the truck and chased him,” Howard told KPRC.
Local and state law enforcement are now coordinating a massive search in Zwolle, Louisiana after York’s mother reported her son and the girl had stopped there.
The couple had been dating on and off for 15 years, but broke up five months ago. Howard is not Alexis’s biological father, but the family says, “She thought of him as her daddy.”
Family members aren’t worried about York hurting the girl, but are concerned she may be harmed if York continues to evade police. “Just please bring her home safe. We won't press charges, just bring her home safe. We just want Lexi home,” Kim Pilcher, Alexis’s aunt, told KPRC.
