Reverend Mpho A. Tutu is an Episcopal priest, the Executive Director of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, and a mom to two daughters. She is also the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and together this spring they launched the Tutu Global Forgiveness Challenge. The challenge, a call for people across the world to embrace the transformative power of forgiveness, built upon the lessons and tools contained within the Tutu’s latest book, (the second the father and daughter have written together), entitled “The Book of Forgiving: The Fourfold Path for Healing Ourselves and Healing Our World.”

Here, Tutu shares the poetry, natural wonders, and can-do spirit that have been her source of inspiration.

I read the poem “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelo; it inspires me because it makes me feel no matter what I do, I will rise.

I heard Khanyi Chaba telling her story. She is the Director of Home Loans and Affordable Housing at Standard Bank in South Africa and a trustee with the Dr Thandi Ndlovu Children’s Foundation. She is also involved with the Shoshana Foundation, raising funds for single mothers and child-headed households. She gives back to her community by being responsible for 14 kids as a foster mother and mentor, providing support for their educational needs. Her love for adventure and sports has seen her achieve seven medals in Comrades Marathon, eight medals in Two Oceans Marathon, Great Wall of China Marathon and Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in 2008. It is inspiring to live your joy.

I saw and still see Table Mountain; it inspires me through new visions of splendor and beauty.

I visited Tibet and walked the Dalai Lama pilgrim walk; it inspired me tremendously that those refugees did the walk with us and did it with so much joy in their eyes.

I met Marlize (my assistant); it inspires me that she always “can.”

I experienced love, it inspires me to do the next right thing.
