As CEO of Girls Who Code, a non-profit that empowers and equips young girls to pursue careers in STEM, Reshma Saujani is determined to close the current gender gap in computer programming and engineering fields. Today, women make up only 26% of all STEM workers, while the U.S. Department of Labor projects that by 2020, there will be 1.4 million new computer specialist jobs. And while 57% of college graduates are women, only 12% of them graduate with a computer science degree.
Following an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2010, Saujani left politics and the public sector to found the organization in 2012. Now, two years later, Girls Who Code is in schools and cities across the country, partnering with tech giants including Google, Facebook, and Twitter. Here, the former hedge-fund lawyer, shares the apps that help her indulge her love of fashion, save time commuting, and keep in touch with her team.
