Dr. Steven Schwartz and his wife, Rebecca, were living the dream: A beautiful, waterfront home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. A busy social life. A thriving medical practice.
But all that changed on the evening of May 28, 2014, when Rebecca came home to an apparent burglary… and Steven was nowhere to be found.
She called police. Once authorities arrived, they found Dr. Schwartz’s body at the bottom of a set of stairs. The doctor had been shot and stabbed multiple times, and as investigators took a closer look at the home burglary, not everything was as it seemed.
As the investigation into Dr. Schwartz’s murder gained greater attention, a story broke in the news that stunned Dr. Schwartz’s friends and family. In 1961, Steven Schwartz had been convicted of killing New Mexico dentist Victor Cook.
Auctioneer James Cecil told Dateline why he bought the gun that killed his friend Victor Cook.

Was it an act of vengeance that took Dr. Schwartz’s life? Or was it something else entirely?
