Andrea Canning reports on the 2005 murder of Kasi Peek in Smyrna, Georgia, and the 1996 murders of Carol Marlin and Maggie Ginn in Marietta, Georgia.

Detectives in Smyrna, Georgia, received a call in October of 2005.

Kasi Peek was dead.

Her husband, John Peek, had been the one to place the call.

He told officers he’d found her murdered in her condo.

At first glance, the scene looked like a robbery gone wrong.

The place was ransacked. Things strewn across the floors.

But there were no signs of forced entry.

Nothing was taken.

To detectives, it seemed... staged.

More than a decade earlier, in 1996, two women had been murdered in nearby Marietta.

Their names were Carol Marlin and Maggie Ginn.

There were no signs of forced entry.

Nothing was taken.

And to detectives in Marietta, that crime scene had also seemed staged.

Investigators did suspect Carol’s husband in the murders, but had no physical evidence.

Their cases went cold.

Until 2005, when Smyrna detectives questioned John Peek about his wife Kasi’s death.

“Is there anything in your past I need to know about?” one of the detectives asked near the end of the interview.

Yes, as a matter of fact. Something happened in 1996.

“I had a wife at the time,” John said. “She was murdered.”

That wife was Carol Marlin.

What are the odds that one man would be married to two women who were both murdered?
