The Vatican condemned what it called the "tragedy in Nice" after a truck plowed into a crowd in the seaside French city, killing dozens of people on Thursday.

"Throughout the night we have followed with great concern the terrible news from Nice," the Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said in a statement issued Friday.
