Trump failing to 'drain the swamp,' poll finds
Just 25 percent of Americans say President Donald Trump has made progress on his campaign promise to “drain the swamp,” according to a Monmouth University poll released Tuesday.
Thirty-seven percent say nothing has changed about the nation's capital since Trump arrived in Washington, and 31 percent think it has gotten worse, the poll found.
Trump railed on government spending and the the seemingly thin divide between lawmakers and lobbyists while boasting about his political independence during the 2016 campaign. Since taking office though, members of Trump’s own staff have found themselves embroiled in the types of scandals he liked to knock his opponents for.
Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price resigned last year amid criticism of his use of private charter planes funded by taxpayers. Now Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt is hanging on after a number of revelations have come to light, including that he paid an uncommonly low amount in rent to stay in a condo linked to a lobbyist.
