Security Officials Call On Trump To Reveal Business Investments
Over 50 military and national security officials have written a letter to Donald Trump, calling on the GOP presidential nominee to reveal details about his overseas business investments prior to Election Day.
Titled "A Call for Transparency," the letter was signed by many prominent figures, including Robert Blackwill, Michael Chertoff and Philip Zelikow.
The request comes after Newsweek published an investigative article detailing how the Trump Organization's foreign business ties in countries like Russia, China and Turkey could complicate his handling of foreign affairs. Citing the report, the letter conveys unease that the organization has financial stakes that could influence Trump's policy stances and become problematic for national security.
"Donald Trump still has not revealed to the American public his international business relationships, even as it becomes increasingly clear that his overseas ties could well constitute significant conflicts of interest when it comes to charting US foreign policy."
Despite concerns about these overseas entanglements, Trump has refused to release his tax returns.
