After Kaine gave a heartfelt response to a question about struggling to reconcile his personal opposition to abortion with his role as a public servant, Pence said "I have a great deal of respect for Sen. Kaine's sincere faith."

But then he adds that he's always personally upheld his pro-life views in public life.

"I can't conscience about a party that supports that," he says of Democratic backing of abortion.

"For me, my faith informs my life," he said.

Kaine's response: "It is not the role of a public servant to mandate that for everybody else."
