Obama Slams Issa For 'Shameless' Campaign Tactics

President Barack Obama slammed Republican Rep. Darrell Issa for "shameless" campaign tactics at a Sunday night fundraiser.

Issa, an Obama critic seeking re-election, recently sent out campaign mailers that praised the president for signing legislation that the congressman co-sponsored into law. The legislation, which gives legal protections to victims of sexual assault, passed with support from both Democrats and Republicans.

The mailer features a photo of Obama at his desk in the Oval Office and says that Issa is "very pleased" that the president supported the legislation.

“That is the definition of chutzpah,” Obama said.

Issa called the Obama White House "one of the most corrupt administrations" in a 2011 interview and pledged to pursue multiple investigations into it as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. One of the most high-profile investigations was into the 2012 Benghazi tragedy, a pursuit that many Democrats believed was aimed at discrediting Hillary Clinton.

Obama also took aim at these inquiries, saying that Issa's “primary contribution to the United States Congress has been to obstruct and to waste taxpayer dollars on trumped-up investigations that have led nowhere.”
