In new ad, Saccone's primary opponent cites his special election loss
Rick Saccone suffered a humiliating defeat back in March when he lost a special election in a heavily Republican district to Democrat Conor Lamb. But because of Pennsylvania's recent redistricting, he's got a chance for redemption, running again in a newly drawn congressional district that's even more GOP-friendly.
The hangover from his loss earlier this spring, however, persists. GOP primary opponent Guy Reschenthaler — who lost the GOP nomination for the special election when Saccone was picked over him at a party convention — isn't pulling punches to remind voters about Saccone's failed campaign.
In a new TV ad, Reschenthaler's campaign points out that "Saccone already lost a safe Republican seat."
"Even President Trump called Saccone 'weak,'" the ad continues, citing an Axios report that quoted unnamed sources who described the president's griping about the Republican contender.
The primary is May 15.
