Clinton Campaign Makes Play for Arizona, Buys Ads in Texas
The Clinton campaign is confident enough about its prospects to begin shifting more resources to boost Democratic House and Senate candidates, including in states that are typically out of reach for Democratic presidential candidates.
The campaign is committing an extra $6 million total to the battleground states of Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina, Iowa and New Hampshire, all of which have competitive Senate races, Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook announced on a conference call Monday. The campaign is also spending an additional $1 million in Indiana and Missouri, along with $2 million in Arizona.
Meanwhile, the campaign is making smaller investments in the second congressional districts of Maine and Nebraska, each of which have competitive House races. Both states split their electoral votes by congressional district.
Most surprisingly, the campaign will run one week’s worth of digital and TV advertising in Texas to highlight the conservative Dallas Morning News’ decision to endorse Clinton. The buy is small and the campaign is not making an earnest effort to win the Lone Star State, but it speaks to the opportunities Democrats feel Donald Trump has created for them.
