Blankenship spent almost $100 per voter in West Virginia
Don Blankenship may not have won the West Virginia primary, but he certainly spent a lot of money making his case to the voters in the state.
All told, Blankenship spent about $2.7 million on TV ads in the state. according to ad spending data from Advertising Analytics.
His messages ranged from his infamous attacks on Mitch McConnell to extensive claims that his conviction in the Big Branch Mine case was the result of Obama White House corruption.
The effort might have helped burnish his image a year after his release from prison (which some suspect was his strongest motivator in running in the first place.) But how much did it get him in terms of votes?
With 92 percent of precincts reporting, Blankenship had 27,414 votes in the GOP primary, enough for a distant third place.
That's just shy of $100 per supporter.
