Ex-Groupon CEO Andrew Mason has never been one to follow the beaten path, so it only makes sense that once he got the boot from Groupon, his next move was to record a rock album.

Mason, who got the pink slip in February, has been spending his free time working on a seven-track album entitled 'Hardly Workin,' now available on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play.

Some song titles include "Groupon Farewell Memo," "Risin' Above the Pack" and "The Way to Work."

The album is based on Mason's time at Groupon and, he says, is meant to be a motivational album aimed at young entrepreneurs.

"This album pulls some of the most important learnings from my years at the helm of one of the fastest growing businesses in history, and packages them as music," Mason said in a blog post on Monday. His wife Jenny Gillespie is a folk singer.

Of course, with his track record, the album has raised a few eyebrows.

The Chicago Tribune calls him "the artist formerly known as the CEO of Groupon."

"I can't tell if it’s a joke or not, but, regardless, it will make you laugh, either with or at Mason," Josh Constine wrote on Tech Crunch.

Consider this lyric: "If you're seeking business wisdom / You don't need no MBA / Look no further than the beauty / That surrounds us every day."

"If Mason is pulling a fast one on us, he's going all the way. His blog post about the release has zero signs of sarcasm," Constine says, citing this line from Mason's post: "Executives, mid-level management, and front-line employees are all sure to find valuable takeaways."

Too bad shareholders didn't find any "valuable takeaways" when he was CEO: Groupon stock fell more than 75 percent under his tenure and then rebounded on news of his ouster.
