A couple from Malverne, N.Y., said they were enjoying a nice evening on their backyard deck Monday when a plane passing overhead dumped sewage on them.
Artie Hughes said they heard an airliner leaving Kennedy International Airport and didn't think anything of it, until he and his wife felt some black liquid hit their faces, 1010 WINS news radio reported.
"It was oily in substance, blackish-greenish oil. I thought it was hydraulic fluid and then the policeman came down and said, 'No, I don't think so. Looks like something nastier than that,'" Hughes told the radio station.
According to 1010 WINS, the officer suspected that the substance -- that fell in coin-sized drops -- was treated sewage from the plane's lavatory that may have leaked out.
Hughes told the radio station that the officer contacted an official at either the New York Port Authority or the Federal Aviation Administration, who confirmed that there was a lavatory incident.
Hughes said the sewage splattered all over his property, and that he just wants an explanation as to why it happened so that it can be prevented in the future.
"Was a button pushed? Was the lavatory filled to capacity before it left the ground?" Hughes said.
There's no word on whether an investigation has been launched.
