Travelers looking for a new spin on their next trip to Las Vegas can now look beyond the roulette tables and slot machines. Opened on Monday, the High Roller observation wheel spins riders 550 feet in the sky, giving them a unique view of the Las Vegas Strip and a thrill of another sort entirely.
Located across the street from Caesars Palace, the attraction not only promises 30-minute rides with panoramic views but also earns bragging rights as the world’s tallest observation wheel, beating out the current record holder, the Singapore Flyer, by 9 feet and the London Eye by 107 feet.
“They took care to make sure it was the world’s tallest,” said Anthony Curtis, president of LasVegasAdvisor.com, an online newsletter. “Being able to say, ‘I went on the world’s tallest wheel’ will be a feather in the cap for travelers.”
The wheel has 28 gondolas, each of which can hold 40 people.
The new attraction also will serve as the towering centerpiece of Caesar Entertainment’s LINQ project, the combination retail, restaurant and entertainment complex that first broke ground in 2011. Flanked by the Flamingo and Quad resort casinos, the half-billion-dollar complex is arguably the biggest development to hit the Strip since CityCenter opened in 2009.
Tickets for the High Roller are $24.95 during the day, $34.95 at night.
