Problems with a conveyor system designed to haul rafts to the top of the world's tallest water slide could delay the ride's much-anticipated opening for the third time. The 17-story, 168-foot-tall Verrückt in Kansas City, Kansas, was originally scheduled to open May 23, but the date was pushed back first to June 5 for more testing and then to June 29. On Wednesday, Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark canceled media preview rides scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Spokeswoman Winter Prosapio said a crew has been working to repair the conveyor system since last weekend to have the ride ready for its official public opening on Sunday. "The conveyer is an integral part of the ride," she said. "It's 264 stairs to the top. Nobody wants to carry a 200-pound boat up it."

Verrückt, which takes its name from the German word for "insane," was certified as the world's tallest water slide in April by Guinness World Records.
