The popular cooler and mug company Igloo recalled more than 1 million rolling coolers over concerns that they could cause fingertip amputation.
The recall involves 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a news release Thursday.
Igloo Products said in a notice on its website that it was voluntarily recalling the coolers in cooperation with the CPSC.
"The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards," the news release says.
There have been a dozen reports of people injuring their fingertips, including amputations, lacerations and bone fractures, the commission said.
The affected coolers were manufactured before January 2024. The manufacture date is printed on the bottom of the coolers in a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the month. The last two digits of the year are printed inside the circle.
The coolers, which cost $80 to $140, come in several body and lid color combinations. They were sold from January 2019 to last month at Target, Costco, Dick's Sporting Goods and other retailers. They were sold online at Igloocoolers.com and Amazon.
People who have purchased the coolers are told to immediately stop using them and contact Igloo for free replacement handles.
