The man who led the team that invented Doritos will be taking his legacy to his grave.
Arch West died in Dallas earlier this month at age 97. At a graveside service scheduled for October 1 in Dallas, his family plans to pay tribute to him with the chip itself.
"We are tossing Doritos chips in before they put the dirt over the urn," his daughter, Jana Hacker, told the Dallas Morning News. "He'll love it."
Frito-Lay spokeswoman Aurora Gonzalez told msnbc.com that West led the team that created the popular Doritos chip, the first tortilla chip to be sold nationally.
The Dallas Morning News reported that West, a Frito-Lay marketing executive, got the idea for a fried tortilla chip after finding a snack shack selling the chips while on vacation with his family in California.
