Greg Smith, the former Goldman Sachs executive who quit the company earlier this month and penned an op-ed piece in The New York Times attacking the firm’s culture and treatment of clients, has clinched a book deal with Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, according to a report on The New York Times' website.
Smith’s book proposal for a coming-of-age story about his 12 years at the firm set off a fierce bidding war among New York publishers, The Times said.
Smith reportedly met with several major publishers in New York, describing his proposed book as “an inside look at Goldman and the story of what he saw as the changing culture at the firm,” the paper said.
The London-based Smith’s op-ed piece set Wall Street and the media ablaze with discussion about the behavior of big banks bailed out by taxpayers after the financial crisis.
